"MAKE THE LOVE OF JESUS KNOWN"
PONTELAND METHODIST CHURCH is situated centrally in the village, by the traffic lights. It is part of the Newcastle upon Tyne (West) Circuit within the Methodist District of Newcastle upon Tyne. Our minister, Rev Jona Sewell, is also the Superintendent Minister of the Circuit.
WORSHIP is central to the life and witness of our Church. Services are usually held each Sunday in the church at 10.00am and 6.30pm. At 10.00am there is also a contemporary, café-style worship service in the hall which we call THE BRIDGE. These services have a more relaxed informal atmosphere and usually start with tea and coffee.
Resources such as The Methodist Worship Book and the hymnbook Singing the Faith are used in our services, but significant use is made of technology to project hymns, responsive prayers, images and videos to aid our worship. The Bridge also regularly uses discussion groups to reflect on the theme of the service.
Children are welcome at all our services and activity tables are provided. On most Sunday mornings, the children and young people join SUNDAY CLUB with activities for two age groups, Stepping Stones up to school year 4 and Rock Solid for years 5-8. Parents are welcome to stay in Sunday Club, or they can leave their children and return to one of the worship services.
Communion Services, All Age Worship and Parade Services are held as announced in the church weekly notices. All our acts of worship end with refreshments and a time of socialising, to which you are warmly invited.
Baptisms, marriages, funerals and confirmation services take place by arrangement with the Minister.
Further information is available via the monthly magazine Cornerstone and the weekly notice sheet.
